A Job Posting is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin – a job posting. It can be found under the ‘Jobs’ tab on your LinkedIn dashboard and is the most efficient ad format when it comes to the recruitment process.
Simply put, a Job Posting works exactly the same way as an honest old job advert in the local newspaper or an advertisement pinned up on your local Post Office bulletin – those who are actively looking for the what you’re offering should have no trouble finding it, whether it be a new job or an old piano. With more than 22 million active LinkedIn profiles in the UK, there’s no better way to capture the attention of a potential new employee.
According to LinkedIn themselves, 90% of their users are open to suggestions from potential employers. They may not actively seek a new job every day, but you can rest assured that they will occasionally visit the ‘Jobs’ tab, where they will find all advertised jobs that are currently available. A Job Posting ad will reach those who are actively looking for new challenges; and here they can read about the company, what the role entails and what is expected of the applicants. The Job Post is of course searchable and the users can filter the results by using several parameters in order to find the positions relevant to themselves, including the title, location, education, industry, company, skills and so on.
How does a Job Posting work?
After publishing, the Job Posting is active and is searchable for 30 days from the date of submission. When the ad is active, an email goes out to all the profiles that LinkedIn considers relevant for the job. These emails are often misguided, and unfortunately perceived by many as meaningless.
Applications come in one of two ways, depending on what you select. Either the applicant is guided via hyperlink to the recruiting company’s career page, where they can read more about the job and potentially apply for it. Or, they can apply directly within the LinkedIn system. They then upload their CV and covering letter, whilst applying via their own LinkedIn profile.
Create a Job Posting
- Try using a generally accepted job title if possible. This results in more ‘hits’ and a much larger chance of increased exposure of the advertisement.
- A job posting is only valid for 30 days, so try to run this in tandem with how long the actual Job Posting on your own page is valid.
- It´s all about maximising the effect. If you want to extend the Job Posting, you’ll have to pay for 30 new days.
When you write the Job Posting, try to use as many keywords as possible, relating to the vacant position. Candidates can then easily find your ad when using the job search engine within LinkedIn.
